If you’re looking for a quiet, family-friendly burger joint in Galveston that serves delicious, juicy burgers with fresh ingredients at affordable prices, look no further than Café Michael Burger on the west end.
If you’re on the island and you’re looking for a laid-back kind of burger joint (that isn’t frozen-fast-food-nuked-in-the-microwave nastiness), you need to check out Café Michael Burger. Fresh, juicy burgers, cooked to order with a variety of topping options that are both unique and well-thought-out pairings. The toppings are fresh and compliment the burgers perfectly.
The great part about this local “burger joint” is that it offers so much more than burgers. There’s a German fare including Knackwurst, Bratwurst, and more. They have hot dogs, grilled cheese, and chicken tenders (thank goodness for those picky eaters), salads, and even apple strudel for dessert. You can get a Coke, a beer, or a glass of wine if you’re so inclined. Something for everyone. To top it off, they are health-conscious and vegetarian friendly.
If you don’t feel like a fatty burger, order any one of their burger selections substituting a ground turkey burger, boneless chicken breast patty, or a veggie patty (they actually cook them so they aren’t mushy inside and they are SO good).
Every one of us enjoyed our meals…B had a traditional Pirate Cove’s Burger, I had the Campeche Burger with a veggie patty, Bug had the Michael Burger with Cheese, and Bubby had the chicken tenders. All good, all gobbled down to nothingness with glee.
The Upside of Café Michael Burger:
The food tastes great, the staff is friendly, it’s clean, and the selection is nice for a small, locally-owned place. It’s quiet with indoor and outdoor seating with a view of the beach, it’s on the west end, and the burgers themselves are affordable.
The Downside of Café Michael Burger:
Burgers and fries, hot dogs and fries, chicken tenders and fries…they go hand in hand, but don’t expect to order your burger and have it come with a side of fries or onion rings. You have to order those separately which brings the tab considerably up. It’s still affordable when you compare it to the other island restaurants, and totally worth it, but it would be nice if they’d just up the price per plate and include the traditional sides as a meal price.
Overall, we give this place an 8 thumbs up and we’ll definitely be going back again!
